Taiwan’s National Communications Commission Amends Two Regulations to Ease the Frequency of Television Advertisement Broadcasting

To foster the robust development of the broadcasting, television, and satellite broadcasting industries, and to empower operators to manage advertisements more flexibly while unleashing their creativity in advertising, the National Communications Commission revised Article 2 of the “Regulations for the Methods of Broadcasting Advertisements and the Distribution of the Number of Advertisements of Radio and Television Businesses” and Article 3 of the “Regulations on Duration of Programs and Distribution and Amount of Advertisements of Satellite Broadcasting Businesses” on March 20, 2024. These revisions (collectively referred to as the “Newly Amended Articles”) adhere to the principles of “maintaining consistent total advertising time per program” and “safeguarding the rights and interests of viewers and listeners.” The revised frequency of advertisement broadcasting as detailed in the Newly Amended Articles is presented in the following table:
The Newly Amended Articles also introduce a third paragraph, specifying that the calculation of advertisement broadcasting times includes advertisements aired before and after programs, as well as those inserted during intervals within programs.
