Our Partner, Aaron Chen, served as a panelist in the session titled "The Controversies Arising From the EU's Draft Standard Essential Patents Regulation." In this session, Aaron examined whether there is room for enforcement agencies to intervene in the regulation and management of Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) from the perspectives of patent law, contract law, and competition law. He shared his insights on how a patent may be determined as "standard essential", and how it may be licensed pursuant to FRAND (Fair, Reasonable, and Non-Discriminatory) principles. Given the crucial role that Taiwanese companies play in the semiconductor supply chain, it is important to explore how government policies can maintain competitive market mechanisms and protect the companies' competition interests.
