The Cable Radio and Television Law was amended where the operators are obligated to broadcast parliamentary channels free of charge (Taiwan)

The Legislative Yuan adopted Articles 33 and 61 of the Cable Radio and Television Law (hereinafter, the "Law") as amended during the 9th Meeting of the 4th Session of the 9th Term Legislative Yuan.

Paragraphs 4 and 5 are added to Article 33 of this Law as amended to stipulate that a cable radio or television system operator shall provide free channels based on the channel locations designated by the central competent authority to broadcast parliamentary sessions; shall not change their format and contents and shall carry them as basic channels in order to realize the public disclosure of parliamentary sessions and ensure the citizens' right to know.

If the above requirement is violated, a fine of NT$240,000 to NT$4,000,000 will be imposed along with a demand for rectification within a stated period in accordance with Article 61, Subparagraph 1 of the Law as amended, and in case of failure to rectify within the period, such fine may be imposed successively upon occurrence.
