Addition and Amendment of the Taiwan Electricity Act

The Electricity Act was amended and promulgated on May 28, 2025. In addition to the key amendments outlined in our previous article 1 , a new penalty provision has been added under Article 78-1. Where an electricity trading platform operator fails to implement measures to enhance neutral operations as required by the electricity industry regulatory authority, the authority shall notify the trading platform operator to make improvements within a specified period. Failure to comply within the given timeframe will result in fines ranging from NT$500,000 to NT$5,000,000, with penalties imposed for each instance of non-compliance. Industry participants should pay close attention to these regulatory requirements to avoid legal risks. Our firm will continue to monitor the developments related to the Electricity Act and renewable energy regulations.
